About Data Soapbox
Data Soapbox was born in 2021 in Cary, North Carolina. We help researchers and human service providers get their data into the hands of people who can use them to improve health and well-being.
Lori Palen is Owner and Principal Consultant at Data Soapbox. She began her career in human services, including work with high-risk teens, individuals experiencing opioid dependence, young people with Down Syndrome, and victims of domestic violence.
In 2003, Lori pivoted to research, studying positive development and risky behaviors in adolescence. Over nearly two decades in the research sector, she helped federal, state, and local clients describe, understand, and support young people in their focal communities. (You can check out Lori’s Google Scholar profile here.)
Although she’s experienced in all parts of the research process, Lori’s specialty and passion is communicating research results. She starts with piles of data, distills them down to important insights, and shares those insights in ways that grab attention and drive action.
Lori holds a BA in psychology, with a minor in business marketing, from the College of William & Mary, and an MS and PhD in human development and family studies from Penn State. Lori also holds a certificate in graphic design and has completed coursework in journalism.
